With new mobile working trends continually making headlines, the spotlight is shining brightly on the flexible workspace industry. At the BCA Awards ceremony on Friday, workspace operators, suppliers, brokers and friends toasted another successful and exciting year, which has seen great achievements from all corners of the sector.
'In 2013 our industry has excelled itself once again,' said BCA Executive Director Jennifer Brooke. 'As we know, the global workplace landscape is undergoing an enormous transition and this year, flexible workspace operators and suppliers have taken great strides to embrace this change and ensure they are right at the forefront of this cultural transformation.
'The BCA Awards are as much about applauding individuals as it is the efforts of the combined industry.'
The 2013 BCA award winners are:
• Broker Representative of the Year: Gareth Smith, officebroker.com
• Trade Supplier of the Year: essensys
• Independent Business Centre of the Year: Garden Studios
• Group Business Centre of the Year: Landmark Plc, Heron Tower
Just under 1,000 client nominations were received across four categories. Nominated workspace operators and suppliers were judged by an independent judging panel, consisting of Bruntwood's Andrew Butterworth, Ian Gibbor of Lenta Business Centres, former BCA Chair Jane Gwillim-David, Philip Morris of Business Design Centre, and Harry Platt - former CEO of Workspace Group.
'I am immensely proud of all those who have reached the BCA Awards shortlist,' said Jennifer. 'The standard is incredibly high and posed a difficult challenge to our judges, who were tasked with choosing an overall winner. With each passing year, the bar reaches greater heights and this year is no exception. I am enormously impressed by those who work in our sector - each winner, and indeed each finalist, demonstrates extraordinary dedication and an outstanding commitment to customer service and professionalism.'
The Broker Representative category highlights individuals who offer the very best consultative service to flexible workspace clients.
'Gareth Smith of officebroker.com was singled out for his knowledgeable and highly efficient approach,' commented Jennifer. 'Particularly, Gareth was praised for his personable demeanor which simply 'gets the job done' to the highest of standards - something that every broker strives for and which Gareth so aptly demonstrates.'
The Trade Supplier group celebrates businesses that deliver a product or service to workspace operators, which was won by IT and telecoms supplier, essensys. 'This year our Trade Supplier award goes to essensys for their consistent 'over and above' mentality. No job is too demanding or too difficult for the essensys team who, in this age of advanced IT and telecommunications, work hard to answer their clients' needs and deliver the very best in customer service.'
The Independent and Small Group Business Centre category is always highly competitive, given the large volume of independent operators in the industry.
'Garden Studios made a distinct impression upon our judges, who were struck by the lengths to which they go in order to meet their clients' needs,' said Jennifer. 'This is reflected in the length of time clients have stayed with Garden Studios. One client has just celebrated their 25th year, which speaks volumes about the long-term commitment Kim and team have made in delivering an outstanding and service-focused business environment.'
'Finally, our award for Group Business Centre
