Empty Property Rates Scrapped in pre-Budget report 

Alistair Darling, chancellor of the exchequer, has scrapped empty property rates for properties with a rateable value of below £15,000 only.

Darling said these buildings make up 70% of vacant buildings in the UK.

Revealed today in the pre-Budget report the change will take effect from 2009/10.
