Supporting Men’s Mental Health
Ahead of this weekend’s International Men’s Day, the Flexible Space Association has hosted a webinar on the topic of male mental health and suicide prevention.
Hosted by Michael Millard, IWG’s Performance Director for London and a FlexSA Board Member, a presentation was given by Leon McQuade on the work of suicide prevention charity ANDYSMANCLUB.
Alongside his day job as co-founder and Chief-AI-Officer of cybersecurity firm Think Cloud, Leon is a director and trustee of ANDYSMANCLUB, and passionate about the work it does. The charity runs support groups UK-wide on Monday evenings across the UK – local groups can be found on their website.
In his presentation, Leon spoke about the high number of male suicides in the UK, with it being the main cause of deaths in men under 50. He talked about the role ANDYSMANCLUB plays in providing a safe space for men to come together to talk, and the charity’s campaign #ITSOKAYTOTALK, which has been supported by many high profile celebrities and sporting figures. Leon McQuade is pictured on the right showing the symbol of the campaign, alongside Michael Millard during the webinar.
Leon’s business is based in Flexible Space Association member The Deep Business Centre in Hull, and he spoke about the support the Centre has given to ANDYSMANCLUB, providing meeting room space and raising money through fundraising activities.
In the Q&A session at the end of the webinar, Michael Millard asked Leon how other flexible workspace operators could support the charity, and he suggested through meeting space for the groups themselves for the volunteers’ regional meetings, and supporting fundraising or sponsorship activities.
The webinar contains a wealth of information for people who might welcome the help available from ANDYSMANCLUB themselves, or be able to support its work.
