On Thursday 18th May 2017, the great and the good of the flexible space sector will descend on London for BCA Annual Conference 2017. You can book here. The theme this year is “Ignite 2017. Disrupt. Discover. Connect.” Your BCA correspondent spoke to a number of previous conference attendees to find out just what they are looking forward to this year.
When you speak to BCA members about Annual Conference, the response is universally effusive. From conference stalwarts, to the relative newbies, every previous attendee waxes lyrical about the content and opportunities generated by this annual fixture on the flexible space sector calendar.
Julie Grieve, Founder at Information Apps, falls into the first category in that she is a conference stalwart! Having attended her first conference in 1999, her reasons for attending are simple: “The BCA do a great job of mixing motivation and information. The speakers are always tremendous and the networking is unparalleled for the industry”. This sentiment is echoed by relative BCA conference newbie, Charlie Beck, Head of Sales at Bruntwood, who attended his first BCA Conference in 2014, finds conference “energising” giving him a chance to “take the time to step back and look at what we do and how we do it, whilst also getting new ideas from other operators and other industries”. Given the hectic nature of day to day life within our sector, conference offers the perfect opportunity to take that step back that can be so valuable for long term strategic planning for your business.
So what about Conference highlights for our attendees? What sticks in the memory for those who have joined us in the recent past? Well, our regulars offer a number of different stories that go some way to demonstrating the value of attending. For Kevin Winstanley, Managing Director of BCA platinum sponsor IP-Xchange, last year’s line was a particular highlight and was “arguably the best line up to date and raised the bar high for 2017.” He is particularly pleased to see Justin Urquhart-Stewart return to the conference and “looking forward to his entertaining and surely quite frank summary of the continuing Brexit debate and its potential effect on our economy and the property services sector”. For other attendees like Jeremy Hampton, Commercial Director at Orega and Sallie Maskrey, Managing Director at Portal Business Centres, the opportunity to network with “like-minded people” has provided their conference highlight in the years that they have attended BCA conference. The attendance of BBC Radio personalities like Garry Richardson and Justin Webb have provided memorable moments, and we are sure that this year’s drinks and canapes reception with accompanying musical entertainment will help to create more.
Looking forward to IGNITE2017, there is plenty to look forward to. When asked what he is looking forward to most Winstanley is unequivocally says “definitely the speaker line up!” and similarly Sallie Maskrey is “particularly interested in hearing the insights of Julie Meyer at this years event.” In perhaps the pithiest summary of what BCA conference has to offer, Nick Gandy says he is looking forward to “the buzz, the volume of information to be consumed, the catch up with old colleagues, the insight into what others are doing in our industry both home and abroad.” So whether it be the terrific line up of speakers, the dynamic conference buzz, or the endless networking opportunities there are multiple reasons to sign up to BCA conference.
Don’t take our word for it, listen to the multiple attendees who attest to the value of attending. Whether you are a provider or consumer of flexible space, or a supplier to our thriving sector, the event has something to offer.
